Chris Sawyer was born in Scotland. He started developing games in 1983. His first big work was in 1988, when he created the coding for the PC version of the video game Zarch. In 1991, Sawyer created the entire coding for the video game Elite Plus.
One of Sawyer's most notable works, the video game Transport Tycoon, was published for PC in June of 1994. He then published two other video games based off of this one, Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Transport Tycoon World Editor, both in 1995. In Transport Tycoon, the goal is for the player to transport goods to get money, building things and buying things in order to do this, with the 2 variations made since enhancing these features.
The first RollerCoaster Tycoon was published in 1999. From 2000 to 2004, more editions of the RollerCoaster Tycoon series were released, including RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, as well as spin-offs to the main series. After this, Sawyer did not make any notable video games until he created Transport Tycoon for iOS and Android, which was released in July of 2013.
