A Park refers to the large area that is generated when a new world is created.

Composition

RCT1 and RCT2

In RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, the only available way to play the game is scenarios. The park that is created with these scenarios is almost empty in these editions, containing just a ticket booth and a short pathway inside of the park. However, the outside of the park, as well as the walls of the park, have a certain theme, which depends on the scenario the player chooses.

RCT3

In RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, the park that generates as soon as the player creates a world in Sandbox mode is similar to how it looks for the scenarios in RCT1 and RCT2. The park is mostly empty, but contains a ticket booth at the entrance and a pathway leading a little bit further into the park. Unlike in the previous editions, however, the theme of the park's exterior is very generic. In Career mode, on the other hand, the interior and exterior of the park are filled with trees, pathways, and rides, with a theme that depends on the scenario. This allows the player to have things to "work with," rather than starting the park completely from scratch.

RCTW

In RollerCoaster Tycoon World, similarly to RCT3, when playing in Scenario mode (the equivalent of Career mode in RCT3), the park is already filled with rides, scenery, and more, with a certain theme depending on the scenario. However, in Sandbox mode, a theme must be chosen, which will decide what the exterior of the park will look like. This is in contrast to RCT3, where the park's interior and exterior is generic. The interior of an RCTW park is still completely empty except for the entrance, though.

Park expansion

In Rollercoaster Tycoon World, if you ever run out of space then you can buy some more land. By clicking the land expansion tab on your building toolbar, it will take you to a bird's eye view of your park. The first expansion will cost 8,000,000, and then the more land you buy after that, the more expensive it will start to get. This is also a great way to get a view of your park from above.
