RollerCoaster Tycoon is a video game series of games in which the player's goal is to create a successful amusement park. The main series contains RollerCoaster Tycoon, RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, and RollerCoaster Tycoon World, while there are several other spin-offs.

List of games[]

The games are listed in order of creation.

RollerCoaster Tycoon[]

Main article: RollerCoaster Tycoon

RollerCoaster Tycoon was developed by Chris Sawyer and was published by Hasbro Interactive in 1999.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, like RollerCoaster Tycoon, was developed by Chris Sawyer. In 2002, it was published by Infrogames.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, unlike the previous 2 games, was developed by Frontier Developments. Atari published it in 2004.

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D was released in October 2012, for exclusively Nintendo 3DS. It was developed by n-Space, and like RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, it was published by Atari.

The overall gameplay is very similar to that of the previous RollerCoaster Tycoon editions. The player is able to build roller coasters, place rides, and construct paths. However, many other key features are not available, such as terrain-forming and water parks. This caused the reception for this game to be not as good as it was for the previous 3 games, as people claimed it was rather dull.[1]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile was released in 2014, with its goal being to bring RollerCoaster Tycoon to mobile devices.[2] It was published on April 10, 2014 for iOS, and October 22 for Android. On5 and UAB developed it, and Atari published it. Chris Sawyer was not involved at all with the development of the game. This game is unique from other RollerCoaster Tycoon editions, as it can be played for free.

Like RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D, the overall gameplay is similar to other RollerCoaster Tycoon editions, although there are some notable differences. In order to keep guests happy, the player must continuously keep adding attractions and repairing broken ones, or the guests will start to leave the park. The player will gain rewards if they complete certain quests. The reception for the game was mostly negative, similar to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D.[3]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Mobile[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Mobile was released by Frontier in August of 2015. This game is almost identical to RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, except that it was released for iOS, rather than PC.

RollerCoaster Tycoon World[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon World was developed by Nvizzio Creations and published by Atari and RCTO Productions. It was released on November 16, 2016. It is the latest edition in the main series of RollerCoaster Tycoon, although 2 spin-offs were made after it.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic was developed by Origin8 Technologies and like RCTW and many of the other editions, was published by Atari.[4] It was released for iOS, Android, Microsoft Windows, and macOS. For iOS and Android, it was released on December 22, 2016, and for Microsoft Windows and macOS, September 28, 2017.

The gameplay of RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic is basically a combination between the original RollerCoaster Tycoon and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. Like these 2 games, the player manages a park, adding rides, shops, scenery, and more, and also must manage finances. Unlike many of the other RollerCoaster Tycoon editions released for mobile devices RCT Classic received mostly positive reviews.[5]

RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch[]

RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch is essentially a mobile version of RollerCoaster Tycoon World. It was published by Atari, and was released for iOS in December 2016 and Android in April 2017. Like RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile, this edition is free to play, but things can be purchased in-game.[6]
